CERN has an opening for a Project Graduate in the Education section in the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group in the Stakeholders Relations (SR) sector. The Education section runs a broad portfolio of programmes for teachers and school students and conducts Physics Education Research to support evidence-informed programme design and evaluation.
As a Science Education Officer you will support the organisation and facilitation of engaging, evidence-informed professional development activities for educators from around the world. You will work closely with and under the guidance of the Teacher Programmes Manager to support the development and delivery of CERN’s teacher programmes.

Functions:
As a science education officer for teacher programmes you will:

• Support the planning and delivery of CERN’s onsite and online teacher programmes.
• Contribute to the strategic development of educational resources, including teaching materials and classroom-ready activities.
• Coordinate communication and logistics with participating teachers, speakers and programme contributors.
• Facilitate selected sessions during teacher programmes, such as workshops, guided visits or discussion activities.
• Contribute to collecting and analysing participant feedback to support programme evaluation and continuous improvement.
• Help explore how CERN-related content aligns with school curricula and assist in developing curriculum-relevant materials.
• Collaborate closely with the Teacher Programmes Manager and the wider Education, Communications and Outreach teams to support the ongoing development and future direction of teacher education activities.
• Provide support for special events and outreach activities involving teachers and schools in the local area and further afield.

Qualifications/skills required

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree in STEM, science education or a related field with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation. You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• Kindly note that experience prior to the latest obtained degree will not be taken into account for the calculation of your overall years of experience.

Experience

• Experience in science education.
• Experience developing teaching resources.
• Experience with particle physics education is an asset.
• Experience communicating scientific concepts clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences, including teachers.

Skills

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, schedule and coordinate activities or events.
• Fast learner, able to quickly absorb new scientific concepts and pedagogical approaches.
• Ability and motivation to work effectively in a team within a large international organisation and to contribute positively to a collaborative environment.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
• Good working knowledge of English or French; additional languages are an asset.

Language Requirements:

Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.

The earliest expected start date of the post is 1 June 2026.

What we offer:

• An employment contract of 12 months with a possible extension of up to 36 months.
• On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French;
